I was sitting in the lobby of the Las Vegas MGM Grand in 2015 after a grueling week of conferences getting fired from the Cybersecurity company I launched 10 years earlier.
My president and my CTO sat me down and said "Adam, you're killing yourself and this company. You can't be in every meeting, on every sales call, and own all the responsibility for our success. Your family is struggling. Your health is failing. You need to take a break and recharge. We got this.".
Just like that, I was out of a job.
Don't worry! I still owned the company and I loved myself too much to not pay me. What changed was that I was no longer invited to the day-to-day grind behaviors. I had to go through an identity shift and stop being a hustle-based CEO and move to an owner mindset.
Three years later I sold my company to a larger firm out of Amsterdam. I could do that because I had the freedom to travel, meet people, create networks, and build amazing leaders.

Firing myself in 2015 unlocked an extra 1MM in valuation at the time of my exit.
When the buyer started the work of setting the value of my firm, they stated that the salary I paid myself would need to be used for the next CEO so they were going to lower my EBITDA by $350k. I was getting an x3 multiplier (Normal for professional services firms) so that meant a reduction of the final sales price by $1.05MM!!!!
Because I fired myself 3 years earlier I was able to say "I understand where you are coming from, but I actually don't know where the offices are and have not met the last 4 people the company hired. The president runs things. You are replacing my strategic vision with yours. No need for the reduction in valuation."

The Bootcamp is 12 group sessions delivered over a 12 week period on Zoom.
The entrepreneur will be there for 4 out of the 12 meetings with the entrepreneur's team doing the work throughout the Bootcamp.
The full methodology is sent to the various teams to get familure with the tools and do any prep they feel is necessary. Prep work is optional. We are in this for the long haul and we can't burn your people out through hustle with no direction.
W#1: All Owners meet and teams are introduced to the process. Work is scoped for the Bootcamp, Goals are agreed to, and work begins.
W#2 - W#4: Teams work on the methodology and processes independently. Weekly calls are to share where they are, what is getting in the way, and problem-solving.
W#5: All Owners attend while teams present progress following a 10 min pitch format in front of their peers. Owners meet privately to discuss the results and solidify the direction of their companies and make any pivots based on new information.
W#6 - W#8: Teams work on the methodology and processes independently. Weekly calls are to share where they are, what is getting in the way, and problem-solving.
W#9: All Owners attend while teams present progress following a 10 min pitch format in front of their peers. Owners meet privately to discuss the results and solidify the direction of their companies and make any pivots based on new information.
W#10 - W#11: Teams complete the final tasks of the Boot Camp and prepare a 24 Month plan for growth based on business systems and not the Business Owner's personal effort.
W#12: Final Owner meeting. 10 min pitches by teams. Owners meet privately in a group and complete the Boot Camp.
